Struggling with your canter transitions? 🐎 Does your horse rush off the moment you move your leg back—or ignore the aid completely? In this video, I’ll show you the difference between moving your leg into position and actually asking for canter—two steps that many riders blur together.

I’ll demonstrate with Rebel, my more educated horse, and Lilly, who is still learning the concept, so you can see the process (and the mistakes!) in real time. You’ll learn:

✅ The correct leg position for the canter aid (outside leg back, inside leg on the girth)
✅ Why the aid starts from your hip—not your knee
✅ How your seat and hips naturally adjust when you move your leg back
✅ What to do if your horse rushes, takes the wrong lead, or delays the transition
✅ How to separate setting the gears from pressing the accelerator
✅ A foundation exercise for teaching walk–canter transitions

Remember: training is not a straight line. Even educated horses like Rebel make mistakes, and that’s part of the learning process. If your horse runs off when you move your leg, quietly bring them back to trot and repeat until they understand.

✨ Try this exercise, then let me know in the comments if it helps your canter transitions—I’d love to hear how you go!
