If your horse feels stuck, heavy, or resistant — this is where to start.
In this video, Josie works with Wilson to rebuild three simple but powerful foundations: Go, Connection, and Turn.
Every horse I train — whether it’s a green youngster like Grayson or a horse that’s come with a problem like Wilson — starts with the same three foundations: Go, Connection, and Turn. These are the basics you can’t afford to ignore, because every hole in your horse’s training leads back to one of them. In this video, I’ll show you exactly how I test and rebuild those foundations step by step.
In this video, I’m working with Wilson, a horse who came to me for a bit of retraining. Whether I’m starting a green horse under saddle like Grayson, or helping one that’s come with a training problem, I always go back to the same three foundations — Go, Connection, and Turn.
These are the building blocks of everything you do with your horse. If there’s a hole in one of them, you’ll eventually see it show up as a bigger issue — things like not going forward, resistance in the contact, or steering problems.
👉 In this lesson, I’ll show you how I test and rebuild these basics:
GO — prompt, forward response from the leg without nagging.
CONNECTION — following the horse’s mouth softly without taking the contact.
TURN — teaching your horse to follow the feel of the rein.
If your horse struggles with any of these, chances are you’re not alone. These are the same fundamentals I come back to with every horse I train.
