This new indie bullet-hell shooter drops soon on Steam & Steam Deck, Playstation and Xbox and I have been having a blast with it. It sort of reminds me of Metroid Prime exploration on Nintendo Switch sort of mixed with Returnal or Saros style bullet hell gameplay. It runs well on Steam Deck too, holding a solid 30-60fps the entire time basically.

I’ve spent about two hours with Luna Abyss so far… and honestly? This game kind of blew me away.

First off, this isn’t just another indie shooter trying to look cool, Luna Abyss actually feels unique. The best way I can describe it is like Metroid Prime and Returnal had some kind of chaotic bullet hell sci-fi baby.

You play as a prisoner sent deep beneath the surface of Luna, exploring this massive derelict megastructure filled with cosmic horrors, lost technology, and a whole lot of mystery. And right away, the atmosphere absolutely nails it. The world feels eerie, oppressive, and weird in all the right ways.

But where the game really hooked me was the gameplay.

Movement here feels fantastic. You’re not just running and gunning, you’re teleporting, launching around enemies, chaining traversal abilities together, swapping weapons to break shields, staggering enemies, and then finishing them off with brutal follow-up attacks. Once it clicks, combat starts feeling almost like this fast-paced dance where you’re constantly moving, adapting, and trying not to get overwhelmed.

And those traversal power-ups? Super fun. They add a lot more verticality and freedom than I expected, and they make exploration feel just as satisfying as combat.

Now, because this is an indie title, yeah… there’s definitely some jank. I ran into a few minor audio bugs and little technical hiccups here and there, so it could absolutely use some patches. But honestly, nothing major enough to ruin the experience.

Performance-wise though? Surprisingly solid. On PS5, it felt great, but what really impressed me was Steam Deck. I was seeing anywhere from 30 to 60 FPS on medium settings at 720p, which for a game with this kind of visual style and intensity is actually pretty awesome.

So early impression? Luna Abyss feels like one of those indie games that could seriously fly under the radar if people aren’t paying attention… but it absolutely shouldn’t.

If the developers can smooth out some of the rough edges, this could end up being one of the coolest sleeper-hit shooters of the year. Right now, I’m genuinely excited to keep playing.
