We're planting diverse, native trees — not a monoculture.
Our partners at GEOTA planted a mix of native trees across this burned landscape in Verdelhos: 35,000 sweet chestnut trees and 15,000 maritime pine trees 🌱
Chestnut trees help slow fires and can resprout after them.
Maritime pines can establish in very degraded soil, help stabilise it, and create conditions for other native species to return 💪
But planting isn’t the right approach everywhere. Some plots have been left unplanted to see how the land recovers naturally.
