There's an upgrade on the new Mac mini that costs more than the machine itself. The base M6 mini is $900 with 256GB. Take it to 2TB and that's a $1,000 upgrade, so you're paying more for the drive than for the computer the drive lives in.
Apple has always charged a premium on storage, but this is the first time the upgrade quietly became the more expensive half of the purchase. My advice: put the money in RAM instead, because RAM is soldered to the chip and you can never add it later. Storage you can add over Thunderbolt for a fraction of the Apple tax. And honestly, 256GB base in 2026 is criminal.
