He actually came through my wife’s pet rescue, and now he has an amazing home.
Since starting her rescue, my wife has helped find homes for more than 1,000 animals, most of them with special needs.
Barnaby’s new parents brought him to my stand-up show in San Diego just five days after our cat, Pokee, passed away. I wasn’t sure how I was going to get through that show. It was emotional, but it also ended up being incredibly cathartic and genuinely helped me heal.
And having Barnaby there made the night even more special. It was also a reminder of just how difficult the work my wife does can be. These animals live in our home, become part of our family, and then, if everything goes right, we have to say goodbye. It’s bittersweet, and it stings every single time.
That being said, my dog’s legs are too short, and I love him for it.
