California sea lions are amazing animals:

-They can dive up to 900 feet
-They can hold their breath for up to 10 minutes
-Males can reach 800 pounds
-They live about 20–30 years
-They range from British Columbia to Baja California

But they face serious threats, including fishing-net entanglements, harmful algal blooms, and human interaction. They’re protected under the Marine Mammal Protection Act—but sadly, protection doesn't always stop people from harming them.

One important note: This was a unique animal encounter I experienced that is no longer offered. Audubon Zoo has other animal encounters available, but the sea lion encounter is not currently one of them.
