God of War Ragnarök Director Eric Williams explains why Atreus is so awkward and prone to making mistakes in the latest game from Sony Santa Monica. The young god is searching for an identity with which his father can't help him, but he also wants to honor his parents and be the best person he can be.
Atreus wants to search for Tyr, the Norse god of war, who was a major unseen character from the previous game. He believes that Tyr will return from exile to lead an army against the tyrannical Odin in the battle of Ragnarök. However, his father Kratos wants to avoid war and to protect his son against any danger.
Atreus assumes that Kratos will forbid him in his pursuit of Tyr, so he decides to conduct the search in secret. He conscripts Sindri the dwarf to watch his back as he opens the Jotnar shrines to discover the hidden prophecies therein.
However, after finding a prophecy that predicts his father's death, Atreus becomes single-minded in his pursuit of some method by which he can prevent Kratos from dying.
At the end of God of War 2018, Kratos sees the same prophecy of his own death and becomes afraid for his son. He makes Atreus focus solely on training during the three-year-long Fimbulwinter that followed Baldur's death so that he will be ready to survive on his own.
When Kratos discovers that Atreus has been traveling in secret, and that he takes Sindri the dwarf to watch his back instead of his own father, he feels ashamed. Kratos decides that he doesn't want to push his son away.
The two gods, father and son, deepen their relationship through love and trust. Kratos realizes that he has raised a capable young god, and Atreus realizes that he still has much to learn. He sets out on his own journey to find the missing giants of Jotunheim after receiving his father's blessing.

Miles is still processing his fathers passing, which he was helpless to prevent in the events of Spider-Man 2018, and still learning about his new powers which he gained after being bitten by a genetically engineered spider which had escaped a secret lab belonging to none other than Norman Osborn.
When the game begins, Miles finds out that he must deal with his personal problems and protect New York all by himself when Peter Parker, the protagonist of Spider-Man 2018 and Miles super-hero mentor, tells him that he plans to fly to Symkaria with Mary Jane Watson for a working vacation.
