LEGO 80121 Ancient Moon-Gazing Inn and 80120 Prosperity Carp Leaping are the latest LEGO sets aimed deliberately at the Chinese market with fundamentally Chinese subject matter - in this case, a historical play diorama and a display piece centred around an ancient myth respectively.
The past couple of years have seen Lunar New Years, ostensibly part of the same sino-focused subtheme, that have failed to deliver on play, and featured central gimmicks that don't necessarily feel like the best use of the LEGO System. Thankfully, these two new sets feel like a direct response to this criticism, and one can only hope that designers of other themes - such as Pokémon - pay attention.
