Leaving Koh Rong is never easy, and this time I really didn’t want to go.
After a wonderful stay on the island, it was time to head back to Siem Reap. I took the open return boat from Koh Rong to Sihanoukville for $30, then travelled onward to Siem Reap with Giant Ibis for $32 one way.
Koh Rong truly worked its magic. I met some amazing people, slowed right down, and properly enjoyed island life. It’s the kind of place that quietly gets under your skin, and I’ll definitely be returning.
I stayed at Ankounamatata Hostel, booked through Booking.com, and paid just $11 per night. Just across the road is Two Tigers accommodation, run by Choppa and Micky from Brighton. I popped over there every morning for coffee, and I even interviewed Choppa in last week’s video, so you might recognise him if you’ve been following along.
Simple, friendly places like these are what make Koh Rong feel special.
Sometimes leaving is the hardest part of the journey.
