They said:

"I don't 'like' your music - and yet I am drawn to it over and over again. I love how committed you are to your explorations, and I feel like you're expanding my ears and perspectives."

Here's why I love this comment:

First, they stumbled across something unfamiliar and instead of immediately dismissing it, they paused. They listened again. It wasn't what they were used to, but they recognized something intriguing was happening.

That kind of curiosity (and willingness to listen more than once) is rare.

Second, they could feel my commitment and passion for what I was doing, and that drew them in even when the music itself was challenging for them.

This is something I tell the artists in my mentorship program all the time: joy and passion is contagious. It comes through in your music.

When you follow what genuinely excites you, when you're fully committed to your explorations, people can sense that authenticity even if they don't immediately understand what you're doing.

Your music won't be for everyone. And that’s 100% okay.

But it WILL land with the *right* people.

So here's the lesson, and it goes both ways:

If you encounter music that doesn't immediately make sense to you, stick with it for a moment. Get curious. You might discover something that expands your world.

And if you're making adventurous, experimental work and it feels exciting, buzzy, and aligned to YOU - but you’re worried it might be "too much" for someone else…

PLEASE don't dim your voice to fit in.

Amplify it. 🔥
