You might hear things like, “Well, you didn’t keep your house clean, and that’s why the demon came back with seven more.” This idea is often tied to Jesus' teaching in Matthew 12, where He says that when a demon leaves a person but returns to find the "house" empty and swept clean, it brings back seven worse spirits.
But here's the problem: that passage is being misapplied. (And, 'Was the issue a demon to begin with?' is also a good question to ask.)
This is not a warning to Christians about failing to perform well enough after deliverance. It’s a critique of spiritual emptiness, not of someone failing to meet a behavioral checklist. Using this passage to shame struggling believers completely ignores the original context and reinforces unbiblical pressure within deliverance ministry circles.
