For Episode 6 of the Finland Series, we’re in Ilomantsi, Finland, at Puoti & Sumppila taking on their GIANT 13,000-calorie Finnish Pastry (Karjalanpiirakka) Challenge, complete with 2 pounds of traditional egg butter!
Puoti & Sumppila is a cozy local café and bakery known for serving authentic Karelian specialties. Guests can enjoy freshly baked Karjalanpiirakat (Karelian pies), traditional rye breads, sweet and savory pastries, and other homemade Finnish treats, along with locally produced food products and handicrafts.
The challenge features a giant Karjalanpiirakka, a traditional Finnish pastry filled with creamy rice pudding and wrapped in rye dough. It’s served alongside an giant 2-pound bowl of egg butter, made by mixing butter with 17 hard-boiled eggs. This is a team challenge and a pay-to-play, so you’ll need to fork over €70 to take it on. If you can finish everything within one hour, you’ll earn a T-shirt and a spot on their Wall of Fame!
