"Make It with You" is the signature song by the American soft rock band Bread and was written by the band's lead singer, David Gates. Released in 1970 as the lead single from the album On the Waters, it became Bread's biggest hit and remains one of the defining soft rock songs of the 1970s. It was the band's only song to reach No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, spending one week at the top in August 1970. It also reached No. 5 on the UK Singles Chart and was certified Gold in the United States.
The song is built around a gentle acoustic guitar, warm string arrangements, and David Gates' smooth, intimate vocal delivery.
