If there is one thing that the Soviet Union and Russia were incredibly good at making, aside from commie blocks and monumental buildings to house its incredibly vast population, is statues and monuments, dedicated to heroes of its past whose legacy is to be cemented in history.
Today I'm going on a brief tour around Moscow to try and find out what the most fascinating monuments are. Join on me on a trip taking you back in time, from the times of the birth of the ancient Orthodox Church to the Soviet times via the days of imperialist Russia. Vladimir, Alexander I, Gagarin: all of these characters still live in the streets of the very center of Moscow, not far from one another. Many city administrations over they years have taken turns deciding whom from the absurdly large pool of Russian historically relevant figures should be paid homage to.
We start off the Red Square, jumping on the metro a few times extending our tour from the northern section of Moscow to the Southern neighborhoods. However, one doesn't need to go too far to see all of these magnificent Soviet monuments: most of them are near the Red Square.
VDNH is also an area of Moscow with really interesting locations.
