The most popular souvenir market in Moscow used to be packed with tourists. It is now as empty as ever.

The scenery is quite sad and desolated as I walk through the empty market of Izmailovo, where the notorious fake Kremlin is located, in the north-eastern district of Moscow.

On a normal day, you'd have thousands of tourists visiting, of all nationalities. In the same way, they'd have hundreds of souvenirs sellers standing there waiting for them to sell them their merchandise, from Putin shirts to matrioshkas.

Unfortunately for them, after Russia sealed its borders shut back in March, tourists from abroad completely stopped coming to Russia and people working in the tourism sector have been largely hit by the pandemic.

This place was once absolutely filled with tourists, as much the streets and the areas of central Moscow, including the famous Red Square. But now walking around the Izmailovo market is just sad and almost scary: there is NO ONE around.

95% of the stands just decide to stay closed, and don't even bother opening up for the very few people that might decide to go for a stroll around the market, especially during the week. Talking to the sellers working there, it is sad and this year has been an absolute disaster for them. Walking around Izmailovo almost feels like some kind of apocalyptic scenario is going on.

WHO AM I?
I started making videos for Youtube when I was a university student. I was always trying to find cheap getaways to do some traveling in spite of the adversities put in place by being a broke university student living on their own! Traveling became more and more a fundamental passion of mine, and now that I'm gradually moving on to make a job out of it I couldn't be happier, and I can only continue making this kind of videos both for mine and your enjoyment!

I also run an ONLINE SHOP with TRAVEL MERCHANDISE, feel free to check it out here πŸ‘‰ bit.ly/2x1Zzjf
