Three surfaces appear to be at different temperatures when felt with the hand. When tested with thermometers, they are found to all be at room temperature. the differences between the surface are due to their varying ability to conduction heat or insulate the hand as it touches the surface.
Note: The thermometers in this demonstration are certainly not calibrated very well. However, the point is that in the cases of the foam and the wood, they do not indicate any change in temperature. The thermometer on the metal plates indicates a significant temperature change as heat is conducted from the metal plate into the ice cube.
