Ping pong balls are a favorite projectile for a vacuum cannons or a compressed air cannon. Either one can generate tremendous speeds for the muzzle velocity, up to speeds approaching 600mph. We'll take a look at the operation of both types individually and see how they compare IN part two we'll combine the two together to generate speeds well in excess of the speed of sound.
