How Zoom Lost ALL of His Aura

Now with Halloween around the corner and me finally getting a chance to discuss some more Flash Related media, today I wanted to talk about a dilemma that I feel needs to be debunked within the flash community. And that is the idea of Zoom being a scary or intimidating villain, or a decently written one. Now don't get me wrong for CW Standards i definitely think Zoom is a lot better than some of the villains we see later down the line, and he's certainly not as bad as Mirror Monarch… or felicit- But if im being honest I think Zoom was at his best a shadow of a certain someone, and never really lived up to the hype on rewatch. Now before we break down Zoom's character, this is going to have to lead into me speaking on a lot of Season 2's content. Barry initially after the singularity happened went solo for a while until of course he realized he cant do this alone. Jay would come into the picture and offrip Barry, suspecting that Jay is trying to be a mole from the inside, and betray them just like how Thawne did. And what's funny about this is the team is against Barry in this situation, due to Jay helping them and giving Barry advice. Similar to how Harrison Wells operated, Jay would be the one this season giving Barry tips and tricks on how to use his speed in better ways, in order to prepare for the inevitable threat. All the while arguing with Harry on how he couldn’t protect his own earth. And I know we do see Zoom early on, even earlier than we saw Reverse flash in season 1, so a lot of us probably weren't suspecting Jay to betray them. However, on rewatch and with the context of the previous season, you can kinda just assume maybe he made a speed mirage or had some way of manipulating the speed force to find a way. In the previous season as well they already suspected Harry before he even was going around as a speedster, so it wouldn't be the craziest thing in the world to assume that's the case here. Anywho before we talk about the bad, let's actually talk about the beginning. However Barry would soon learn to never underestimate a speedster who you don't know if you're faster than or not. Barry and Zoom would scrap up a building, where we see clearly Zoom has the edge. Barry would get slammed into the ground, where he would then proceed to be made a fool out of. This man Zoom would throw in Capcom 3 combos, along with throwing possibly the nastiest punch Barry has ever been hit with, where you can quite literally hear bros' spine shatter. I forgot to mention as well, Barry during these first few episodes learned to throw lightning. Do you want to know Zoom's response to this? After Zoom is done playing practice mode on mortal kombat, he decides to run around to the police stations, to every reporter in town, and to pretty much the whole city, that he is in fact him and he is the fastest man alive. Now i cant even lie, this dude Zoom IS SO RAW. I actually hate the CW bro. We at least get a really cool scene with him in legends and how he's running after Eobard because technically he shouldn't even be around, and it's really cool.. BUT once again, this is in legends and not the flash. Zoom genuinely to me never seemed scary to me, at his very best he felt like an imposing threat for like maybe a handful of episodes, before he then got dumbed down to a tragic guy who reflects on the main character on a surface level, but deep down it just comes off so suddenly and out of nowhere. And for those of you who think he's “scary” I have a question… Is this only because of his introduction? And I guess maybe the prison scenes on earth 2? But aside from this I can't really see Zoom as a cornball that's fallen to CW writing. Everything about Zoom at his best is just better done with the villains before and after him, and at his worst he’s someone who tries to come off as this big threat, but he wants to kill everyone except the girl he kissed. “Oh but tylearned this shows that Zoom is actually human, and he connects with Barry in that way” Thats great, i just wish the show didn't throw this at me in like the last half of the season when Zoom was shown to be something much more interesting beforehand. We see him in season 5 getting a cameo where he almost catches Barry which uh.. Yeah not gonna lie that's a plothole but, we see him of course in the final big fight with all the villains returning, where Thawne literally just bullies bro on the spot. Then he proceeds to get done dirty, being beaten up by damn side characters. You guys remember when Zoom caught lightning? Well, let's see his final scene in the show. Yeah it's safe to say the “scariest” villain of the flash. Was in fact never scary. He is a lazy written, creep/borderline simp, and the best thing I can say about him is that we have Reverse Flash at home…
