Interviewers comment on what candidates wear ALL THE TIME behind the scenes.
Even when the interview is virtual.
I get it, it's impossible to not notice someone's appearance.
But the fact that so many interviewers say the quiet part out loud makes me reeeeal nervous as an HR professional.
So here’s some tips based on what I've seen as the best interview apparel:
🍊 Wear something that makes you feel confident.
Think of your “power outfit.” For me, it’s that orange number I wore on Job Shopper.
🍊 When in doubt, default to buttons.
A good rule of thumb is to always wear a shirt with buttons to a job interview. Toss a blazer over it while you're at it.
🍊For video interviews, you can skip the tie (might feel a little out of place at home).
(and in general...I come from the tech industry where there is essentially no interview situation where you would wear a tie)
