While Qassem Soleimani’s death has sparked much debate over the potential ramifications that could possibly lead to further tension and an escalation to war between the United States and Iran, what also requires our attention is the chaos that was exacerbated by the Iranian general himself demonstrating the utter hypocrisy of the so called Sunni- Shia unity callers like Mahdi Modaressi and Azhar Nasser both US citizens and Muzaffer Haider from Islamic Pulse- a British citizen.
As the commander of the Quds Force, a military that was set up to liberate al quds yet did not set a foot in Palestine as it was busy aiding tyrants in suppressing and massacring Sunnis,Qassem Soleimani was responsible for strategizing, training, and leading not only a branch of Iran’s military, but also Shi’a militia groups outside of Iran’s territorial jurisdiction such as Hezbollah in Lebanon, Harakat al-Nujaba, Kata’ib Hezbollah, Kata’ib Sayyid al-Shuhada, Kata’ib Imam Ali, Liwa Abu Fadhl al-Abbas, among many others, the latter of which fall within the Popular Mobilization Forces (Hashd al-Sha’bi) who have been accused by many human rights organizations such as Human Rights Watch, Amnesty International, and the United Nations for atrocious human rights violations and massacres. He was also responsible for establishing what we now know as the ‘axis of resistance’ which comprised of a strategic military alliance between Iran, Hezbollah, and the Assad regime.
