The FREEWELL x BRANDON LI magnetic VND CPL Filter tested with the Blazar Viper 50mm t2.1 1.5x anamorphic lenses on the Lumix S1II with real world cinematic footage including using 1/4 mist filter.
Getting better at filmmaking is all about trial and error. One of my biggest mistakes early on? Neglecting a high-quality Variable ND filter. In this video, we're taking the Blazar Viper 50mm T2.1 1.5x Anamorphic out into the wild to test out the incredibly thin, magnetic Freewell x Brandon Li VND + CPL filter.
If you're shooting outdoors in the middle of the day, maintaining that 180° shutter angle while shooting wide open at T2.1 can ruin your exposure. I’ll walk you through why this filter system is perfect for a run-and-gun setup, and how to properly dial in the built-in circular polarizer (CPL) to save your highlights and keep your colors rich instead of looking like an uncut wall.
Whether it's getting the exposure right, pulling focus on anamorphic glass, or just trying to catch a fish—filmmaking is about learning from your failures and trying again.
