I was trying to figure out how I could make vegan homemade cheesy popcorn without butter and still be delicious, and I've discovered how! Popcorn is cheap, healthy, and so easy to prepare. This is popcorn with Miso Paste!
Recipe:
1/2 Cup of Popcorn Kernels
2 tbsp of Coconut Oil
1 tsp of MSG
1-2 tbsp of Water
1 tbsp of Nutritional Yeast
1 tbsp of Miso Paste
Instructions
1. Heat a large wok, or pan on medium high heat. Once hot, add 1 tbsp of coconut oil and let heat up till it shimmers, not smoking. If you drop in a kernel it should bubble. When ready add kernels and MSG, and place a lid on.
2. Once you start to hear the popping, move the pan back and forth to shake the kernels down to the bottom, and prevent it from burning. When the popcorn is at it's peak popping, lower the heat to medium. Once the popping slows down to 2 seconds without a pop, remove from heat.
3. To prepare the sauce, add together water, coconut oil, and nutritional yeast, then microwave for 15 seconds. Add the Miso paste and mix it all together. Then drizzle over the popcorn in the pot and mix well so no popcorn has huge globs of paste. Enjoy!
