Everyone loves a good conspiracy theory. In an era where access to information on just about everything is available at the touch of a screen, there’s just something about the idea that everything isn’t what it seems that digs its way into our minds and refuses to let go. Whether they be strange tales of disappearing naval vessels, questions about the shape of our planet, or reimaginations of religious texts, these theories have been a part of modern life for as long as anyone can really recall - and the rise of the internet has thrown them into overdrive. What used to be relegated to minimally published books and magazines now appears on the front page of your favorite social media site. Conversations which once existed only in email chains and far flung corners of the web have become commonplace topics of discussion, and on this channel we’ve covered quite a few of them. There’s Chan Thomas’s Adam and Eve Theory, the disappearance of MH370, the Pancake Earth, and many more. For the most part I feel we’ve been able to deconstruct them, explain them, and put them aside…but there is one which, no matter how many years go by, continues to vex me: Tartaria.
