This is the final episode of Volume 3 in my Essential Landscape Photography series, and also the final episode of the entire series.

In this video, I talk about something that quietly defines every landscape photographerβs journeyβ¦ hit rate.
We often assume that effort should equal results. That if we plan well, check forecasts, and arrive at the right time, a strong image should follow. But landscape photography doesnβt work on effort alone.
Conditions shift constantly. Light changes minute by minute. Weather builds and breaks in ways you canβt fully predict. And because of that, even the best planned shoot can result in no usable image at all.
In this episode, I break down:
Why expectation vs reality causes frustration in the field
Why judging success only by outcome limits progress
What actually improves your photography over time
Why a low hit rate is normal, even for experienced photographers
How consistency is built through repetition, not control
This series originally came from an article I wrote for Fstoppers, reflecting on things I wish I had known earlier in my photography journey. That idea evolved into three full volumes of real-world lessons from the field.
