The “Babes in the Wood” murders refer to the 1986 killing of nine-year-olds Nicola Fellows and Karen Hadaway in Brighton. The girls disappeared after going to play in Wild Park and were found assaulted and strangled. Local man Russell Bishop was tried in 1987 but acquitted. Decades later, advances in forensic testing uncovered new DNA evidence linking Bishop to the crimes. In 2018, he was retried, convicted, and sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 36 years. The case became one of Britain’s most notorious miscarriages of justice before ultimately being resolved.
