Situated along the Murray River, Australia's longest river and border between Victoria and New South Wales (and running into South Australia), the river is over 2,500 kilometres (1,500 miles) of untouched Australian nature and one of the few places you may be able to spot the elusive platypus in the wild.
A paradise for lovers of water sports, with not end to places you can kayak, ski, canoe or go fishing, the whole region is a sun-kissed wonderland full of striking natural landscapes and endless winding waterways.
Off the water towns like Echuca, Mildura, Swan Hill, Rutherglen, Yarawonga, Cobram and Wodonga give you plenty to explore on dry land.
Lovers of wine will recognise the name Rutherglen, the town synonymous with vino, dating back more that 160 years in the wine making industry and one of regional Victoria's key wine regions.
Nearby, if you travel out to the Murray Sunset National Park, you'ss see the famous Pink Lakes. Located in the far northwest corner of Victoria, the lakes are a popular attraction for photographers, with their unusual colouring changing throughout the day, from a deep pink to a bright white.
The region is home to some significant Aboriginal sites including being home to the Mungo man and woman whos remains date back more that 42,000 years.
