The Flying Unicorn was a junior rollercoaster that opened at Universal’s Islands of Adventure on June 29, 2000. Located in the Merlinwood section of the Lost Continent, the story of the rollercoaster was a wizard who found a unicorn’s horn, which it sheds once every thousand years. The attraction would close on July 7th, 2008 to make way for the Wizarding World of Harry Potter. The ride would reopen as the Flight of the Hippogriff on June 18, 2010 along with the rest of the Wizarding World of Harry Potter. The story of the rethemed rollercoaster is Hagrid is teaching young wizards how to fly a Hippogriff by using fake replicas of the creature.
