Ace Frehley used a 1973 Tobacco Sunburst Gibson Les Paul Deluxe converted to Humbuckers as his main guitar until 1976. The Mini Humbuckers wer swapped for DiMarzio Pickups. A 1972 Super Distortion in the bridge and a DiMarzio PAF in the neck. The unique black pole pieces of the 1972 Super Distortion can be seen in many pictures of Ace. This is the very first version of Super Distortion. As opposed to later version this first version also features long legs.
In this video I'm comparing a 1972 Super Distortion to a later (1973-1975) version using a 1973 Gibson Les Paul Custom and a late 1980s Fender FAT3 Amp with a 1967 Celestion T1217 G12H25 75Hz Greenback.
