The Star-Spangled Banner is the national anthem of the United States of America. The lyrics were composed in 1814 by young American lawyer Francis Scott Key after watching the bombardment of Fort McHenry by the British. The battle raged on through the night and he waited until dawn and he could see whose flag flew over the fort. In the morning, the American flag still flew, indicating that they had not been defeated!
