When Pluto was removed from the list of planets in 2006, many people were shocked by this huge change. What most of them didn't realize is that this isn't the first time that a planet has been demoted. Meet Ceres, formerly the fifth planet of the solar system. After its demotion Ceres spent more than a century and a half in obscurity, nothing more than the largest asteroid in the asteroid belt, until being reclassified as a dwarf planet along with Pluto.
