As we rise over the River Mersey, two great structures emerge — standing side by side, yet belonging to different worlds of time.
The Jubilee Bridge, its elegant steel arch stretching across the water, was built to carry the flow of modern life. Cars and people move across its span, its silver lines a symbol of connection and renewal.
Beside it stands the railway bridge, older, heavier, and steeped in history. Built in the age of steam, it has watched over the Mersey for more than a century, its ironwork etched with the stories of countless journeys.
Together, they are a portrait of past and present — one born from Victorian industry, the other from the optimism of the twentieth century.
From above, they bind Runcorn and Widnes across the river’s shifting tides, timeless guardians of a crossing that has shaped the lives of generations.
