Last week, East Belgium fell quiet.
Heavy snow settled on the trees and froze into the branches, turning familiar paths into something fragile and otherworldly. Moments like this have become rare here — a winter that doesn’t move, doesn’t melt, and doesn’t make a sound.
I took my dog and walked for hours through this frozen landscape with my camera, tripod and microphone, trying to do as little as possible. No movement. No narration. Just listening. At maximum sensitivity, the microphone began to reveal things the ear usually misses — snow slipping from branches, distant creaks of trees, the soft resistance of footsteps in deep powder. Even my own breath felt too loud... so I held my breath for every take.
This film isn’t about action or spectacle. It’s about being present in a place that is holding its breath.
I later added a subtle layer of music, not to tell a story, but to gently support the feeling of standing there - alone, surrounded by white, while the forest slowly speaks for itself.
Winter Silence is a quiet record of a fleeting moment in East Belgium — a reminder of how rare true stillness has become.
