As we continue to contemplate the ways fandoms behave and evolve, I wish to tell you the sordid tale of the first modern fandom drama, and what the feverous reception to Johann Wolfgang von Goethe's novel, "The Sorrows of Young Werther" can teach us about fandoms today.
