The Square Kilometre Array - studying gravity, magnetism and life in the Universe. Public lecture given by Phil Diamond, Director General of the SKA at "The Metre Wavelength Sky" conference. The conference was held at NCRA-TIFR, Pune, from December 9-13 2013, to mark 50 years of radio astronomy research at the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR), as well as 10 years of operation of the Giant Metrewave Radio Telescope (GMRT) as an international observatory. The Square Kilometre Array (SKA) project is an international effort to build the world's largest radio telescope with a square kilometre (one million square metres) of collecting area, under the leadership of the SKA Organisation based at Jodrell Bank Observatory near Manchester, UK.
