All of the despawn/respawn mechanisms have been thoroughly tested by me with the Giant Horse, Royal White Stallion, a Boko horse and a regular wild horse to make sure that there aren't any special rules for the "unique" horses.
Not all of the tests were taken on the same account tho, hence why some of the clips have that little Triforce icon in the corner.
Small fun fact: the guy who buys your horse has different dialogue for the Giant, Stalhorses, the Lord of the Mountain, deers/stags and bears, but doesn't have anything special to say about the Royal Stallion or Epona. He will still claim that the horse "looks like his old partner".
Not-so-fun fact: he also sells your horse to an unknown person later. You can meet him at Outskirt Stable and talking to him will lead to him thanking you and then entioning that he "made a nice profit" by reselling his mount, at which point he will quickly change the subject.
