The Collatz Conjecture is the simplest unsolved problem in mathematics. Pick any positive integer. If it's even, divide by 2. If it's odd, multiply by 3 and add 1. Repeat. Does every number eventually reach 1? We've tested quintillions of numbers and they all do — but nobody can prove it always works.
