Suffering from the Quarantine Blues? Surviving the pandemic in a RV has been challenging but weve been managing. Like many people living day to day, quarantined at home and surviving the coronavirus pandemic, we have some advantages and disadvantages over those surviving in a regular sticks and bricks. For example, we were quarantined while boondocking in the desert of Quartzsite, AZ. We had the entire desert backdrop and mountains as our home base. This allowed us to do our part in social distancing while still being able to enjoy the sunshine and outdoors. Our nearest neighbor was about 200 yards away. Additionally, Arizonas Governor encouraged residents to get out and enjoy the sunshine, so we did just that, while making minimal contact with others.
The disadvantage to surviving the pandemic in an RV is that we have a TINY house. We could get bored and frustrated very easily if we didnt have a routine and plan to survive the pandemic and BEAT the quarantine blues. In this video, Brian and I share our thoughts on what you can do to hopefully beat those COVID-19 quarantine blues and survive the pandemic in your RV. Many of our suggestions are applicable to both RV and sticks and bricks living! Dont get us wrong, we still have our days when we get frustrated and blue, but having a routine that includes work and fun, has helped us get by. Adding a portable multi-voltage portable refrigerator freezer to increase space is essential when living in an RV with a smaller refrigerator. This video is an update to our earlier video where we shared the unfortunate news about the problem we were having with the Triton V10 engine in our Winnebago motorhome.
We had so many people reach out offering help, support and suggestions after we discovered the engine in our motorhome developed a knock. Ultimately, we took it to The Engine Builders, which is an engine specialty shop in Glendale, Arizona. It took about 5 minutes for Dave to diagnose the the problem. Daves diagnosis was a failed piston due to overheating which was most likely caused by a faulty fuel injector on cylinder #7. The knocking sound heard in the first video was indeed the piston skirt slapping the cylinder wall! Though not a catastrophic failure, it certainly could have lead to serious problems if not corrected so we took Daves advise and had them rebuild the engine. It took just four days for them to disassemble the front of the coach, remove and rebuild the engine, then reassemble the front of the coach! Not that is service!
