The best way to read the navāṁśa (or any other zodiacal vedic subdivision charts) is a little known secret that I will reveal now in clear detail.
This will begin a series of videos in which I will illustrate how essential this technique can be, using practical examples of well known people.
In this installment we will look at the horrific serial killer, Jeffrey Dahmer.
The Technique
Before we look at him, let me introduce you to the basic principles of the technique itself.
This is my Navamsha.
Let’s take a closer look at this Ketu.
Why is it here in Capricorn?
You’ll find that answer in the main chart.
Here in my main chart you see Ketu at 3 degrees of Virgo, which is the it’s Capricorn subsection in navāṁśa
So that’s why my Ketu is in Capricorn in the navāṁśa.
That’s the way everyone always looks at the navāṁśa, but here is where it get’s unique…
In the main chart, How far into that Capricorn subsection is Ketu?
You can eyeball it and easily see its towards the end.
You can math it up to find out exactly what degree it is at in that subsection.
The NEXT STEP is where the magic happens.
Now that you know the degree, you can plot it back on the same wheel as your main chart, and see if it’s anywhere special.
If it’s not, then its not a really crucial part of your navāṁśa, but if it is…
When we put my navāṁśa Ketu in context of the main chart, look where it is! Closely conjoined to the ascendant.
That alerts you right away, “Ketu is really significant in describing this person and their life accurately. Much more significant than it looks in the main chart.”
And without knowing that, using my main chart alone or even my navāṁśa without this special technique, you might not realize the extent to which I live and breathe spirituality, astrology, and the esoteric occult day in and day out - or just how unusual, counterculture and destabilized my life actually is.

Why such an insane criminal?
Main chart has some “supporting actors” but no “leading role” to really show how obviously insane he was.
Specifically, his chart missing the most typical signature of criminal insanity, the Node/Moon & Node/Jupiter conjunctions, especially occurring in difficult and malefic contexts, like we see in
charles manson, david berkowitz, adolf hitler, richard ramirez, ted bundy and others.

When we look at how Dahmer’s navāṁśa interacts with his main chart, the blur resolves to a sharp focus. Now - seeing his debilitated d9 Jupiter conjoined his d9 Ketu right on his d1 4th house cusp - we easily spot the signature Ketu affliction to a debilitated Jupiter in the 4th house.
Additionally we see the other benefic, Venus, also implicated in the d9’s Rāhu/Ketu axis, and this affects the main chart’s 10th house cusp.
A third very helpful things we see is that the d9 Ascendant is conjoined the d1 Ketu - further alerting us that Ketu is much more active and influential than what the main chart alone seems to depict.

As I mentioned, this technique works for any subdivisions that uses zodiac signs. For example lets talk about how Dahmer’s daśāṁśa interacts with his main chart.
First, we get a new, interesting angle highlighting how emotional and lunar he is. We see this because the d10 Moon exactly conjoins the d1’s ascendant, AND the d10 Asc is also quite close to the d1 Moon.
But also, we get a further confirmation and clarification of just how intertwined the nodes are with his Jupiter. His d10 Jupiter is close to both his d1 Rāhu and 12th house cusp.
With all this information at our fingertipes, Dahmer’s chart becomes just as clear cut as the other mega-criminals like Manson, Berkowitz and so on.
