Balance in animation is extremely important, making sure the weight of the character is in the correct spot is vital for appealing and believable posing. It's one of the first things every animator learns. However, we are creating movement as 3d animators, not statues, and in real life, there are countless moments where we are slightly off-balance, and it's those tiny adjustments our bodies make to ensure we stay balanced, and don't fall over that can add so much to an animation. Especially a body-mechanics heavy animation. In this video, I break down several real-world examples from skateboarding to martial arts moves to show those moments in life when our body is not perfectly in balance and our weight is slightly off. Whether you are an experienced animator or learning how to animate, this tutorial will hopefully help you to produce appealing movement.
