The Unimog 421 is actually made up of four major models, the U40, U45, U52 and U60. But what are the differences and how can you identify them?

Major Unimog 421 model range overview:

*421.122 open cab (soft top/cabrio) early models U40 & U45 with either OM621 (40hp) or OM616 (45hp) four cylinder diesel engine.
*421.123 same as above but closed cab (hard top)
*421.124 open cab (soft top/cabrio) later model U52 fitted with OM616 (52hp) four cylinder diesel engine
*421.125 same as above but closed cab (hard top)
*421.126 long wheelbase open cab (soft top/cabrio) later model U60 fitted with OM616 (60hp) four cylinder diesel engine
