Deep in Ghana’s Volta Region is a story that has been carried for generations.

For nearly 250 years, the people of Tafi and the Mona monkeys of the sacred forest have shared a remarkable connection rooted in tradition, belief, protection, and community.

What began as a sacred relationship helped preserve not only the monkeys, but also the forest they depended on. Generation after generation, that connection became part of the identity of the people and the landscape around them.

This is the story of Tafi Atome—a place where culture, history, nature, and conservation are woven together in a way that continues to endure.

Some stories are written in books.

Others are still living among us.
