A PC dies in a B/X or OSR campaign, and suddenly the table hits the same wall: do you start the replacement at level 1, do you “catch them up,” and what do you do about gear and magic items? If you don’t have a clear method, every death turns into a fairness argument—and that can derail a good campaign fast.
In this video, I lay out a simple, table-tested replacement character procedure for B/X and other OSR rules systems. You’ll get a fair starting level rule that keeps death meaningful without making the new character useless, a clean gear policy that avoids “free magic item” problems, and an easy in-world way to introduce the new PC without wasting half the session on a trust interview.
Searchable phrases: B/X replacement character, OSR campaign new character, replacement PC starting level.
If you’ve been wrestling with level gaps, party resources, and keeping the campaign economy intact, this will give you a rule you can write on a card and use tonight. Subscribe for more practical OSR procedures and table-ready advice.

![Modern D&D Wont Say Orcs Are Evil. B/X Already Decided!
D&D 2024 didnt remove evil orcs — it removed the ruling, and B/X answered this exact question forty years before Wizards had to.

Ive touched the orc nature-vs-nurture debate before, but only as a general Dragon Magazine-era discussion. This time Im telling you how it actually played out at my own table, and why B/Xs Chaotic alignment gave that argument an ending the 2024 Monster Manual doesnt. The new book drops the dedicated Orc, Orc War Chief, and Orc Eye of Gruumsh statblocks in favor of generic humanoid entries you reskin yourself. The lore stays — orcs still trace back to Gruumsh, still naturally strong — but the automatic alignment ruling is gone. This ones about what a game loses when it keeps the question and deletes the answer
