We are wrapping up "The Dissidents" chapter in Abigail Shrier's "Irreversible Damage." This time, the focus is on a Jungian therapist and a psychiatrist.


One part I cut was a little discussion on language choice regarding people seeking treatment. In general, (I think) most counseling psychologists have adopted "client" to refer to their... clients. This is meant to give the person more of a sense of control and agency in the interaction. Also, they are paying for a service. However, the therapists working from one of the depth approaches (psychoanalytic, psychodynamic) seem to prefer "patient." This keeps it feeling more detached and medical. Marchiano uses this phrasing.
