Stucco is one of the oldest building materials that's been continuously used for several millennia across almost every civilization and culture, and it's widely used today. After siding, stucco is probably the most common cladding material that’s specified in the United States. However, stucco in North America has a reputation for causing a ton of different moisture issues, and many homes and buildings with stucco have experienced catastrophic moisture-related failures. stucco is a reservoir cladding. It absorbs and stores water, and redistributes that water to other porous hygroscopic materials. In this video, we discuss best practices when specifying stucco in a framed wall assembly to prevent future moisture issues like mold and rot.
