We got the timing right, putting the butyl liner in just before some heavy and prolonged rain. There wouldn't have been enough to fill the 3,000 litre (approx) pond by direct fall, but we have 8 large rainwater butts collecting off the cider house and apple store, and we ran all that in with a length of hosepipe.
