Hook the line around the tip of the index finger and rewind the tag down around the two parallel lines. Make three wraps working back down toward the eye. Pass the tag end back through the small loop being held by your finger. Tighten the knot down onto the standing line.
This Pitzen knot draws its name from a German called E Pitzenbauer. It is similar to the Uni knot, where once the knot is fully tied down, there is this outer wrap of the single line that runs around the inner wraps. A major factor why this Pitzen fishing knot out performs many other line connections is when the knot stretches under tension, the tag moves together with the bulk of the knot and becomes more firmly secured.
