Week 26 of our ongoing study through the 1689 London Baptist Confession of Faith continues with Chapter 17: The Perseverance of the Saints, taught by Nathan Hargrave.
In this lesson, we examine the biblical doctrine of perseverance, exploring how God preserves His people by grace and how believers are called to endure in faith and obedience. The 1689 Confession is not intended to be read vertically as isolated doctrinal statements detached from one another. Rather, it must be read horizontally. Each chapter builds upon the others, forming a unified and systematic theology in which every doctrine supports and clarifies the rest. Understanding perseverance requires seeing how it connects to God’s decree, the covenant of grace, justification, sanctification, and assurance.
