I have made 6 inch, 12 inch, and 18 inch deep shelves for the pantry. I have also made a system for holding canning jars on 6 inch shelves. In this system, there is a shelf on the bottom of the jars and a shelf on the top. In the shelf on the bottom, I cut holes for the jars to sit in and on the underside of the top shelf; I cut holes to hold the top of these jars. The system locks the jars in place so they won't fall off the narrow 6 inch shelves.
