It’s hard to believe how devastating the Palisades Fire has been.

The Palisades Fire broke out on January 7th at 10:30am and fueled by intense dry winds that reached 100 miles per hour has spread to over 20,000 acres and has completely destroyed over ten thousand homes and businesses leaving nothing but smoldering ashes.
Entire neighborhoods have been wiped from the map by a ruthless firestorm.
My family has a long history in the Pacific Palisades and it is a place very dear to my heart. The Palisades is where my mom and her three siblings grew up. It’s where in the 1950s my grandparents chose to raise their family. They lived in the Palisades for seven decades, until my grandmother passed away earlier this year. It’s a wonderful family focused community where people know and care about each other.
When the Palisades fire broke out, we held our breath, helplessly waiting and assuming the worst. After the fire swept through our area, my uncle rode his bike into the Palisades and took these images, which are surreal yet don’t really put the level of annihilation into clear perspective. The neighborhood is gone.
By some miracle my grandparents home appears to have been largely spared by the fire. The house is still standing but the garage and darkroom my grandmother used for her film photography are dust. We are lucky to still have our family memories as so many have lost everything. We are devastated for our neighbors and friends and for the entire community.
It’s heartbreaking and truly beyond comprehension. My heart goes out to any of you affected by the fires in the Palisades and across Los Angeles.
The scale of disaster caused by these fires is only just coming into focus. This will be a long road to recovery. I’ll be continuing to share resources to help those affected by these devastating fires. Please keep the Palisades and LA in your thoughts, hearts and prayers. ❤️🩹
